Release Notes

I remember lot of folks having great difficulty when we say enable VERBOSE logging in Reporting Service and collect the logs. The reason most of the time we get confused where to enable the verbose logging and more importantly the overhead of editing the different config files manually. Is that right?

The time has come for you to smile. Yes, this tool will help you to do the same in just a mouse click and in no time. It is named as “Verbose Logger”.

Here are some of the highlights of this tool:

1. It works against SSRS 2000 / 2005 / 2008. (Will automatically detect and list the installed RS instances on the machine)
2. It enables / disables verbose logging for Report Manager / Report Server and for Windows Service.
3. It has the capability to even enable / disable HTTP logging for Reporting Service 2008.
4. Has the added capability to restart the IIS and the corresponding RS service accordingly. (Will prompt you before doing so)
5. Automatically takes the backup of the corresponding config file before modifying it. The backups are differentiated with the date and timestamp on which they’re backed up.

This tool requires .NET framework 2.0 and above. Kindly let me know if you’ve any suggestions / issues while using it.

The Trace text box in the Verbose Logger tool actually logs each and every point of information. So all you need to do is Right click the textbox and save the file. Send the same to me in case you got in to some errors. Also you can go through the Trace text box to see the sequence on which each and every setting happens.

PS: Please do make sure you DISABLE verbose logging right after reproducing the issue. It has a huge impact on performance.
